GREAT NEWS — ‘Scape Sculpture Park will be open again for the Kapiti Arts Trail which spans two weekends this year for the first time. We will also be open for the week days between so easy to choose a day that suits. Bee Doughty-Pratt will be painting in her studio throughout this period as well. There will be a great selection of sculptures and paintings on show and The Little Black Caravan will be purveying their wonderful coffees both weekends. Pick up a map and trail booklet from information centres everywhere and cafes and similar establishments throughout the Kapiti Coast.
HAPPY NEW YEAR is the traditional greeting at this time of year …
BUT THIS IS NOT A GOOD NEWS DAY !
‘Scape Sculpture Park is closed until further notice. There will be NO Open Days in January 2015 at all. We have advertised our Summer Exhibition with several associated weekends open for viewing but this exhibition has now been postponed until further notice and all opening hours advertised on-line or in print, are cancelled.
The reason for ‘Scape being closed is a serious family accident which is requiring all hands on deck in Melbourne for the next few weeks keeping a family event business running during its busiest time of year. While there will be someone care-taking on site at ‘Scape throughout January, the Summer Exhibition has not been fully curated, new sculptures have not yet been installed and the grounds are not being maintained. We have looked at every avenue for remaining open over this period but have been unable to find a workable solution.
Please accept the apologies of everyone at ‘Scape for any inconvenience this causes.
Look for further announcements on this web-site and on ‘Scape’s Facebook.
D-Day D-Day D-Days !!
September 20 Saturday + September 21 Sunday 2014
10am to 4pm Both Days, Rain, Hail or Shine
We promised an Open Day or two when we had the wonderful D for Dandelion Stop The Clock sculptures installed so here we are with the dates confirmed at last. We have two open days only planned this time so let’s hope for good weather again. So the first D is for Dandelion but the second D is for Dinosaur and we are delighted to announce that as well as the Dandelions, we will also have a 5 metre long Spinosaurus on exhibition (and for sale) over this same weekend. The third D was going to be for Duncan — a wonderful red kinetic work of art but sadly he won’t be available for a few extra weeks but watch this space! Saturday 20 September is also Election Day … a D-Day of quite another sort … it may just be D-Day for a political party or two … either way … when you are out getting your voting done, take some extra time to come and check out the new works we will have installed at ‘Scape by Saturday 20 September 2014. More Open dates on Contact Us page.
Queens Birthday Opening 2014
Saturday May 31, Sunday June 1, Monday June 2 10am to 4pm and every day until Sunday June 15
WOW - About 2000 of you blew our little cotton socks off during this mid-winter Exhibition. We were anticipating that rain, hail or snow would impact visitor numbers and were pleasantly surprised with beautiful sunny days, no wind at all and masses of people. Queen’s Birthday Saturday was our official Opening Day and hundreds of you enjoyed a glass mug of mulled wine as you strolled the property with your catalogue in hand. Rather decadent before noon but very enjoyable all the same. We are so pleased that we didn’t wait until Spring to launch the Park. Over thirty large outdoor sculptures by several different sculptors were installed here at ‘Scape — some didn’t quite make it in time but have since. The works were much-admired and several sold. Their replacements are being negotiated as we speak and being installed progressively as they become available.
Our next Exhibition will open on Labour Weekend Saturday October 25 although we do plan a number of Open Days before then — see Contact Us page for more details.
Kapiti Arts Trail
2 & 3 November 2013
‘Scape Sculpture Park was not quite open in time for the Kapiti Arts Trail this year but more than a dozen large out door works from both Bruce Winter and Steuart Welch were installed on site with several successful sales taking place. Bruce Winter also sold several of his smaller “Angels’ — always popular. With Bee Doughty-Pratt as resident artist and a regular on the Trail each year, good weather saw a great turnout. The temporary ‘café’ set up by Jennie Harris from Crème Cuisine did a roaring trade in Devonshire Teas and light lunches and visitors enjoyed the ambiance of the property.
‘Scape is now looking forward to scheduling their next open day .… watch this space for dates.
